Job Description
JOB DESCRIPTION:

Material Handler Laborer (MHL). The MHL assists one or more workers in the skilled maintenance trades by performing specific or general duties of lesser skill such as: keeping a worker supplied with materials and tools, cleaning working area, machine, and equipment; assisting journeyman by holding materials or tools; and performing other unskilled tasks as directed by journeyman. The kind of work the helper is permitted to perform varies from trade to trade. In some trades the helper is confined to supplying, lifting, and holding materials and tools, and cleaning working areas and in others, the worker is permitted to perform specialized machine operations, or parts of a trade that are also performed by workers on a full-time basis.  Some of this tasking shall require journeyman level support within this task order's scope. Work performed in this category does not exempt this contractor from quality standards within this document. Tasking examples could include changing light bulbs/light ballasts, hanging white boards/coat racks/shelving, set-ups for special events, snow removal, pictures hung, painting, installing missing or damaged ceiling tiles, installing missing damaged floor/carpet tiles, lending assistance to the skilled trade technicians in support of their tasking, moving furniture, fire extinguisher inspections/replacement, emergency shower inspections, escorting other support groups, door guards in the event of security concerns, installing computer keyboard trays, installation of compressed gas cylinder mounting brackets, decommission of gas cylinders. Due to changes in the Base custodial task order, certain areas may require addition cleaning and refuse management outside the scope of that task order. Contractor would provide an individual to perform specialized cleaning for certain areas and special functions. Work would also include sweeping/mopping common areas, fire escape stairwell cleanup, grounds and loading dock policing for refuse and trash, assistance rendered in scheduled paper shredding tasking and recyclables collection and removal, sanitizing hand rails, trash receptacles and light fixtures and high and low dusting. Comparing all Back Shop tasking, journeyman specialized cleaning and refuse management would represent 15% of the Back Shop work load annual labor hours requirement.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to perform physical activities, such as, but not limited to, lifting up to 25 lbs. unassisted, bending, standing, sitting, or walking.
