HVAC&R/Mechanical Lead. A mechanical and heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration (HVAC&R) technician performs a variety of mechanical trade functions such as the installation, maintenance, or repair of mechanical equipment. Work involves most of the following: installing or repairing any of a variety of mechanical equipment such as freezers, refrigerators, walk-in freezers, DX air conditioners, air handling units, HVAC controls (i.e. Building Automation Systems), hydronic heating/cooling systems including generation and distribution systems (chillers, boilers, heat exchangers, pumps, cooling towers, piping); working from blueprints, drawings, layouts, or other specifications, locating and diagnosing trouble in the mechanical system or equipment, working standard computations relating to load requirements of systems or equipment, and using a variety of hand tools and measuring and testing instruments. Assists as shop foreman for resolution of problems with service work or scheduling issues. Works with Test Directorate Site Lead (TDSL) to schedule workload, procurement of materials and/or required subcontractor services. Performs general maintenance and repair of equipment, infrastructure, and buildings requiring practical skill and knowledge in HVAC&R; basic plumbing; and basic electrical work. Work involves a variety of the following duties: electrical connections, removal of mechanical systems, installation of mechanical systems, maintenance of mechanical systems, troubleshooting of mechanical systems. Mechanical systems include refrigeration, air-side equipment, hydronic equipment, and associated infrastructure. Support required in the following three areas.
Vacuum Pumps. Responsibilities include service vacuum pumps, oil/belt changes, electrical maintenance, maintain AFTO Forms 244 and selected Data Base (contractor technician shall update records/work within this database), troubleshooting/repair, loaner service and inventory control, installation of new pump on site, purging pump of liquids, maintain inventory of specialized hardware to support repairs, provide service information, prep of turn in equipment, drain and purge, documentation, waste fluid control, turn in, transportation, disassembly, shop equipment maintenance , preventive maintenance as per technical order or cots manual, maintain AFTO Forms 244 and the selected database.
Refrigeration and Freezers. Responsibilities include service on lab refrigeration equipment including walk-in freezers, industrial-type refrigerators and freezers, lab air conditioning units, lab de-humidification units, and accessories to these types of equipment. Service includes preventative maintenance per technical orders or COTS manual, AFTO Forms 244 and selected Data Base (contractor technician shall update records/work within this database), oil/belt changes, filter changes, cleaning, electrical maintenance, plumbing maintenance, troubleshooting/repair, loaner service and inventory control, and refrigerant purge/re-charge.
Lab HVAC Systems. Responsibilities include service on lab HVAC systems including air handling systems, hydronic systems (pumps, chillers, heat exchangers, boilers, piping, etc.), and other lab HVAC equipment. Service includes preventative maintenance per technical orders or COTS manual, AFTO Forms 244 and selected Data Base (contractor technician shall update records/work within this database), oil/belt changes, filter changes, cleaning, electrical maintenance, plumbing maintenance, troubleshooting/repair, loaner service and inventory control, and refrigerant purge/re-charge.
