Job Description
Summary

The Interior Designer position requires the performance of work be concerned with the design and alteration of interior spaces to meet functional and aesthetic needs such as;  Identifying, researching, and creatively solving problems pertaining to the function and quality of the interior environment. Performing services relative to interior spaces, including programming, design analysis, space planning and aesthetics, using specialized knowledge of interior construction, building systems and components, building codes, equipment, materials, and furnishings. 
Performing project management/scheduling of renovation projects as well as monitoring and supervision of contractor's performance for quality and adequacy of rendering services.  Material procurement procedures include interior furnishings following Air Force Furnishings Commodity Council requirements.  Preparing drawings and documents relative to the design of interior spaces in order to enhance and protect the health, safety, and welfare of the public.  Coordinating and integrating the mechanical, electrical, and structural engineering disciplines within the interior context.  Managing projects, developing cost estimates, evaluating bid proposals, reviewing construction documents, participating in on-site construction visits, conducting pre- and post-occupancy evaluations, developing standards for efficient space management, etc.   


Responsibilities
  • Accomplishes and/or manages assigned design projects from inception to completion.
  • Performs planning, programming, project estimation and design work for multi-phase new construction, as well as multiple office/conference room/lab renovation, repair, maintenance and minor construction projects for a variety of real property facilities utilizing design knowledge and skills.
  • Serves as consulting designer on all design/construction aspects of assigned projects.
  • Prepares and reviews CE Saber/MACC/Army COE statements of work for the acquisition of professional architectural and engineering services from contractors.
  • Keeps abreast of emerging technologies to ensure programmed development and newly constructed facilities will not prematurely become obsolete.
  • Maintains Building Standards Materials, specification and inventory, while ensuring the materials continue to meet the technical specifications needed in each of the lab/office/conference spaces.
  • Request and provide all material quotes and specification for material procurement.
  • Familiarity with Codes pertaining to Health, Safety, and Welfare of Interior Environments.
  • Analyze space and furniture arrangements and new furniture requests for compliance with universal design concepts and base building codes as well as ergonomic solutions.
  • Knowledge of standard contracting regulations, practices, and procedures.  Provide/Write all required material for furniture procurement, either through contracting office or government credit card purchase.
  • Fluent use of Autocad Architectural Building Suite for maintaining master building plans and design of assigned projects as well as Project Matrix Furniture Specification software knowledge.
  • Move Management skills for renovation and construction projects.
  • Monitor internal work order program and coordinate facility requests assigned to renovation/design/furniture/seating/ergonomic requests.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing using tact and diplomacy.
  • Participates in conferences and seminars within the Research Lab and Interior Design Field.
