Summary:

The position requires a highly collaborative and self-motivated individual who will work in a team setting and take direction from the Executive Director of Newport Aquarium. Plans, sets objectives, and leads the Finance Department to include all aspects of financial accounting, cash control, inventory control, business planning, and information technology.

Responsibilities:

  • Formulates and manages policies, procedures, and objectives to ensure the most efficient and professional finance program for the property. Coordinates the property financial activities with Herschend Family Entertainment Corporate Office, Senior Controller, and Chief Financial Officer
  • Provide positive financial leadership for the finance team and assigned divisions in a professional and competent manner using established policies, procedures, expectations, and training for the team to perform at the highest level of accuracy and efficiency.
  • Manages the accounting function, including all activities related to accounts payable/receivable, cash control, general ledger, monthly and annual financial reports, internal controls and the annual audit.
  • Establishes general accounting and reporting systems in compliance with corporate systems and generally accepted accounting principles. Reviews and approves the recording of assets, expenses and operational profits with related reports. Conducts profit and loss, budget, forecast and financial reviews. Analyzes and makes recommendations on proposed capital projects and operational changes.
  • Provides consultative and participative decision-making advice to Executive Director and department heads. Ensures that operating management receives needed financial information on time to facilitate decision-making. Makes recommendations for expense control and takes action by developing contingency plans and general financial oversight.
  • Leads the preparation of periodic budget reports, conducts financial statement reviews at each period's end, analyzes results, and reports variations to identify potential budgetary problems.
  • Manages the property's annual and five-year budgetary program. Prepares financial forecasts and financial review packages. With the corporate office, develops yearly and five-year financial targets. Implements and uses Information Technology systems to support automation growth.
  • Conducts financial studies and proformas to aid long-range and short-term financial planning in revenue production, expense management, per capita spending, and capital investments in compliance with corporate forecasts and financial plans.
  • Authorize test checks and internal audits as necessary to determine the adequacy of pre-established controls and adherence to established operating policy.
  • Practices servant leadership with consultative and participative decision-making skills. Undertakes special assignments or projects when assigned by the Executive Director.

Qualifications:

  • A four-year degree in Accounting or Finance required
  • Advanced degree and/or CPA certificate preferred
  • Ten years of experience in the finance and accounting field
  • Excellent observation and communication skills
  • Proven leadership and previous management skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ethics that generate and sustain a positive team atmosphere and professional environment
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends and holidays. Ability to respond to emergencies when needed
  • Successful completion of background and credit check

Salary Range: $88,000 - $130,000
