DLBA Naval Architects, a Division of Gibbs & Cox Maritime Solutions, is a wholly owned subsidiary of Leidos. DLBA is a naval architecture and marine engineering firm which provides consulting services for the design and construction management of a variety of boats: motor yachts such as Alamshar and Foners (formerly Fortuna) commissioned by foreign nobility, fiberglass recreational boats like Mastercraft's Aviara series, and aluminum workboats like Kayak Express. We specialize in high-performance marine craft design and engineering yet support all types of vessels and clients from record-setting high-speed race boats to commercial marine tugs and barges like Capt Bud.

Our experience encompasses preliminary and contract-level design package development, to detail design and engineering, production design, and through-life support. As an independent naval architecture and marine engineering firm, the Company employs engineers, designers, and analysts from all of the traditional engineering disciplines including naval architecture, propulsion, mechanical/auxiliaries, structural, electrical; as well as program, administrative and financial management. This broad spectrum of capability allows Gibbs & Cox, Inc. to provide fully integrated and engineered solutions to the most challenging design problems. The Company has participated on numerous industry design and engineering teams and has contributed to ongoing, hull mechanical and electrical research and development activities.

General Duties
Our intern program involves having the student obtain a broad understanding of all phases of ship design and engineering. The goal is for the student to learn about:

  • The involvement of the stake holders in the design, such as the client and/or regulatory agency

  • Requirement trace, verification and validation

  • Coordination between disciplines

  • Production of quality products including configuration control

  • Development of studies to detail design calculations and drawings

  • Importance of risk reduction

  • How cutting edge technology is incorporated into the design, such as space, weight and services reservations to coordination of concurrent designs with manufacturers

  • To always be looking for cost effective designs to reduce manning through automation, meet pollution control legislature requirements, improve safety, and reduce construction, operation and maintenance costs.

The intern will obtain hands on experience by working on real tasks supporting engineers within their area of interest, as well as directly with engineers in other disciplines. Depending on our work load the intern will have an opportunity to work on various types of ships in various phases of design as well as development of alteration packages for ships already in service.

Minimum Requirements

  • Must be enrolled in Bachelor Degree program and pursuing degree in Marine Engineering, Naval Architecture, or similar field.

  • Must be rising senior class level, graduating 2025.

  • US citizenship is required.

Pay Range:Pay Range $44,850.00 - $81,075.00

The Leidos pay range for this job level is a general guideline onlyand not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreement (if any), or other law.
